Northern Bukidnon State College Partners with DOST X in Updating the Institutional Research and Development Agenda
Northern Bukidnon State College (NBSC) successfully conducted the updating workshop of its Institutional Research and Development (R&D) Agenda in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology—Region X (DOST-X) on November 11-12, 2024. This initiative aligns with the institution’s commitment to providing high-impact research to be a college of choice and to contribute to the region’s socio-economic growth.
With the support of DOST-X, NBSC recognized the importance of creating an R&D agenda that responds to both national and regional priorities, including the Philippine Development Plan (2023-2028) and the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD). The updated R&D Agenda will focus on advancing research and innovation that will contribute to NBSC’s strategic goals and the growth of local and regional industries.
Bringing together the institution’s executives, program heads, faculty researchers, local government representatives, industry partners, and other stakeholders at the Student Welfare and Development Center (SWDC) Conference Room, the workshop focused on aligning NBSC’s R&D activities with the region’s development goals and identified critical research areas and opportunities that could drive innovation and socio-economic development in the province of Bukidnon and the broader Region X.
Dr. Christie Jean Villanueva-Ganiera, College President, welcomed the participants, emphasizing the importance of this collaboration in shaping the future of NBSC’s research and development, aligning the agenda to the institution’s program offerings and the community’s needs.
The two-day event featured insightful presentations and interactive discussions led by experts from various fields. Dir. Ritchie Mae L. Guno, Provincial Director of DOST Bukidnon, kicked off the sessions by providing the rationale for the activity, emphasizing the importance of aligning research initiatives with the broader goals of national development. Dr. Primitivo C. Ragandang III, a key speaker, led a session on the pivotal role of research and innovation in the academic career development of faculty members in SUCs. Meanwhile, Ms. Rosielyn P. Additionally, Mr. Christopher Casinillo of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI-X) presented a comprehensive analysis of the industry needs in the Province of Bukidnon, further guiding the alignment of research priorities with the province’s economic and industrial requirements.
Moreover, DOST Research Specialists, Engr. Jonathan R. Agbayani, Mr. Jon Michael A. Semilla, and the Project Technical Assistant Engr. Rubie Mae D. Fernandez facilitated discussions on key topics such as mapping R&D stakeholders, aligning institutional research with provincial and municipal development plans, and analyzing industry needs and R&D supply and demand in the province. These discussions helped identify priority research areas for NBSC’s R&D unit and laid the groundwork for the institution’s future research direction.
NBSC’s updated Institutional R&D Agenda will serve as a strategic blueprint for the college’s research activities, enabling it to better respond to the community’s evolving needs and opportunities and contribute to the broader goals of national and regional development.
